EM Media's Talent Network

EM Media's Talent NetworkEvents for UK freelancers

When's the next event?
Date: 14 October 2010
Place: Antenna Media Centre, Beck Street, Nottingham, NG1 1EQ
Time: 4pm-8pm plus networking afterwards

What’s going to be happening?
EM Media’s Talent Network in partnership with Nottingham Skillset Media Academy presents:

Digital Distribution and Marketing Strategies
There are numerous digital tools and online services to help filmmakers and digital content producers reach the right audiences for their products.

Producers can cultivate online social networks to reach new audiences and build a community around their product. These communities can then be used to test out ideas, get valuable feedback, spread the word – and can even help inject extra revenue into the project. But when approaching the Brave New World of digital distribution and marketing, where do you begin?

Digital Distribution and Marketing Strategies aims to offer insights, practical advice and case study examples from two leading industry innovators and experts in this field.
Here’s what’s going to be happening…

4pm - 5:30pm Workshop:
Understanding and engaging your audience
Morgan Holt, Director of Transform
(and delivery partner in the UKFC/ NESTA-supported Take 12 programme)

This workshop will cover:
• Why film makers need to care about digital and online
• Case studies from other media sectors
• Tools to help frame your projects

Please come armed with your project ideas and receptive to presenting these ideas to others: there will be opportunities to discuss and apply some new ideas to your projects’ marketing and distribution plans, plus a Q&A with Morgan directly after the session.

6pm - 7:30pm Masterclass:
Online Distribution the Dogwoof Way
Oli Harbottle, Head of Distribution, Dogwoof

Dogwoof is a UK film distributor specialising in social issue films, documentaries, independent films and world cinema, with titles including The Age of Stupid, Black Gold, Burma VJ, The End of the Line and Food Inc.  Dogwoof releases films nationwide, acquiring all rights for exploitation through theatrical, DVD, TV and Online platforms, and backing their releases with major – and often very innovative – marketing campaigns.  Three of Dogwoof’s films - Burma VJ, Food Inc., The Milk of Sorrow – were nominated for Oscars in 2010.

Oli will be talking about:
• Dogwoof’s set up and ethos, films and distribution methods
• A case study distribution strategy for the feature documentary, Restrepo, which won the documentary grand jury prize at Sundance, from the Dogwoof slate. The film is set for release early in October 2010.
• Dogwoof’s views for the future, plus an update on forthcoming plans and projects including the company’s exciting new partnership with international telecoms giant Cisco

Who should attend Digital Distribution and Marketing Strategies?
The event is likely to be film-focused and will benefit professionals working in the film and interactive industries, who would like to use digital and online methods to find and engage the right audience for their project.

How do I book my place?
